Panther Pride

Christian Sportsmanship is a key component to the Panther Athletic Program and yesterday I had the opportunity to share this message with the boys in the football program. I will have the same presentation with our girl's in the basketball program today. Here are some of the highlights:
  • St. Paul’s will be the “class” of the league.
  • When you step on the field, you represent self, all people of St. Paul’s (including that member who may have never stepped foot on campus), and, most importantly, Christ.
  • Sportsmanship will be a top priority.
    • Examples of how this can be displayed:
      • Support the officials. Do not show disrespect. Tell them “Good Game” at the conclusion. Tell them “Good Call” when appropriate.
      • Hand the ball to the official. (Don’t just throw it down after a score. Chase down loose balls and return it to the official)
      • When a flag is pulled, hold it up and be recognized (or drop it and be recognized). Once recognized, pick it up and hand it back to the player.
      • Recognize good plays from our opponents. They are not our enemy. This is not a war!)
      • We support our teammates at all times, no matter the situation!
      • Show enthusiasm for the game and for the players on the field/court.
      • Play Hard! Play Fair! Nobody Gets Hurt! (Obviously in athletics injuries are going to occur. But they will not occur due to playing unfair.) No Cheap Shots!
Thanks for supporting our players and our program!
